It's Friday Night

It’s Friday night.
I’m alone in my room.
And I feel perfectly fine.

Most kids are out partying right now.
But I chose to stay in.
Not by force.
By choice.
Sometimes you can get too wrapped up in life.
So many places to go.
So many things to do.
Life can fly right by if you let it.
Take the time to slow down.
Relax.
Appreciate the moment.

It’s Friday night.
I’m alone in my room.
And I feel perfectly fine.

Choosing a Path

She was stuck at a crossroads. Not a major one, but one that could defiantly alter her journey. Her heart pounded and her stomach churned as she sorted through the delicate situation in her head. Should she go left, rejecting the invitation, either out of fear or a sense of hidden and malicious motives? Or should she go right, sticking to a path she is use to? A path that is filled with goodhearted compassion, but can also lead to her own heartache and pain. The decision was her's to make. Sure, she had her passengers for advice, but ultimately she would be the one to turn the wheel. Either road would be rocky, but the large trees were blocking her view, making it impossible to see which way would be worse. It wouldn't have mattered though. Both roads were too long to see the destination they would lead her to. She closed her eyes and took some deep breaths. She didn't have to make a decision yet. There were no cars behind her, but if she waited too long then some would soon appear. Checking the fuel, she realized how much gas she had left. The tank use to be full, but naturally time had burned some of it away. She thought that she had enough to go either way, but it was nearly impossible to tell for sure. She took a second look at both roads. They were both narrow so she would need her driving skills to make it through. She would have to try her best not to lose control and crash. It was a lot of responsibility, but there were other factors effecting the paths too. Stormy weather. Potholes. Animals crossing. Sharp Turns. But it was time. She cleared her mind, made a decision, and turned the wheel. Only time will tell where this path leads.

Just You and Me

I have your hands.

Did you know that?

Or… your fingers at least.

The way the pointer ones are crooked and when you put them together they make a V shape.

I didn’t know this was from you before.

I thought it was a result from years of cracking my knuckles.

Until she pointed out that she had them too.

And that they came from you.

I use to hate my crooked fingers.

Now I love them.

Funny how stuff like that can change, huh?

I wish that I had gotten the chance to know you.

See your inner beauty that they speak of.

Have my own stories with you to tell.

I don’t blame you though.

I don’t blame anyone.

How could I?

This was the way that the cards were dealt.

Even though I was too young to remember you,

I’ve heard so much about you.

I think I see you in the women whose lives you touched.

I see you in my mother.

I see you in my cousin.

I see you in my sister.

I even see you in myself.

Thank you for making us the women we are today.

I think that you would be proud of me.

I’m a dreamer, did you know that?

I am consumed with the optimistic ideas of peace and love.

I try to be selfless and help others as much as I can.

I try to see life as an endless maze of opportunities.

And remember that even when times are hard, things will surely get better.

We will meet again one day.

I’ll get to experience your magic firsthand.

Hear the stories from your own mouth.

I’ll even tell you mine.

And after we get done catching up,

We will walk,

And we will talk,

And we will make memories of our own.

Just you and me, Grandma Annie.
